KDL Makes Major Investment in Cisco Optical Equipment

EVANSVILLE, IN (PRWEB) October 6, 2005 -- Kentucky Data Link, Inc.®, a provider of reliable, high quality wholesale metro and long haul transport services for voice, data, and video traffic, today announced that it has made a major investment in Cisco Systems optical networking equipment in order to expand its network and provide additional services to its wireline, wireless and MSO customers. The deployment of 13 Cisco ONS 15600 Multiservice Switching Platforms (MSSP) will build additional capacity into the KDL network to support projected growth, provide rapid provisioning of new customer traffic, and extend the KDL network reach into several new markets.

The Cisco ONS 15600 Series MSSP combines the functions of multiple metro systems, including SONET/SDH multiplexers and digital cross-connect network elements, together in one scalable, easy-to-use platform with carrier-class reliability, availability, serviceability, operations, and management. With this additional capacity, KDL will be able to rapidly turn up new high bandwidth services for customers from DS-1 level to OC-192 to wavelengths.

In 2002, KDL standardized its transport platform on Cisco Systems optical SONET, earning KDL the Cisco Powered Network certification.
