You do have options when it comes to taking out a mortgage payment protection insurance policy. You do not have to take cover that is offered alongside your mortgage but can instead choose to buy it independently. By choosing to take out a policy this way you can save an enormous amount on the premiums while getting a policy that is sold and backed up by experience. A standalone specialist will only sell payment protection products and so are able to provide the consumer with pertinent information regarding their mortgage protection needs.

It is essential to read the terms and conditions that come with the cover as this is where the exclusions are to be found. There are exclusions which are to be found residing in all policies. Being retired, suffering a pre-existing illness, if you are self-employed or only work in a part time position are all included. Providers can add in others so checking the conditions over is a must when comparing cover.

The majority of mortgage insurance policies will begin to provide the policy holder with a tax free income between one to three months after they have become unable to work.
